IT12 - Iris iGpu

i read that in order to enable the IRIS iGPU you needed different ram (Dual Channel), so i purchased 32gb (16x2) PNY XLR8 DDR4 3200, dual channel
1.2v xmp 2 support to replace the single channel lexar it had installed, with the PNY memory the system boots but bios cant detect anything about the ram so it displays it as unknown and seems to only run it at 2666mhz.

i went into bios and wanted to manually change the memory settings, its logged in as an administrative user however i have a very locked down set of options. so i cant even attempt to put in the proper settings, nor can i enable IRIS iGPU that remains hidden in device manager in windows with no option to enable it. I made sure to have all intel based drivers installed and even intel arc, everything is as up to date as it stands.

is there a bios that i can flash to this IT12 that will maybe give a fully functional BIOS? maybe add more memory compatibility or at least give me the ability to manually set some of the settings myself?

EMI on the serial bus.

I bought the IT12 to substitute for the tower that I was using in a music studio. I use an external multi-channel audio interface on the USB 4 channel. As soon as I hooked up the IT12 to the audio interface, I started getting horrible electromagnetic interference (EMI) resulting in screeches, thumps, scratches and howls from my monitors. I can hear every keystroke, mouse move, screen update or drive access. I have tried removing and reinstalling ALL drivers., with no luck. I have ordered a bunch of fancy shielded cables, but my setup was fine before. Anybody else using the IT12 in a music studio setting?

IT11 unable to sleep and freezes

Out of the box my IT11 would not stay in sleep mode for more than a second. I removed all USB and connected devices and was unable to sleep to work. So I gave up.
Now over night it will freeze with the power light still illuminated blue. It is unresponsive and requires a daily long power button press.

Is there a BIOS sleep/power setting I can change to allow sleep and prevent the computer from freezing?

TIA

Can You Use HDD Cable for SSD

If you are wondering whether you can use a hard disk drive (HDD) cable for a solid state drive (SSD), the answer depends on the type of cable and the type of SSD. There are different kinds of cables that connect HDDs and SSDs to the motherboard, such as SATA, IDE, and M.2. Some SSDs use the same interface as HDDs, such as SATA or IDE, while others use a different interface, such as M.2 or PCIe. Therefore, you need to check the specifications of your SSD and your cable before attempting to use them together.

Generally speaking, SATA cables are compatible with both HDDs and SSDs that use the SATA interface. However, you may need to use a different power cable for your SSD, depending on its form factor and power requirements. IDE cables are compatible with both HDDs and SSDs that use the IDE interface, but they are less common and slower than SATA cables. M.2 cables are compatible only with SSDs that use the M.2 interface, and they are usually attached directly to the motherboard without a separate power cable. PCIe cables are compatible only with SSDs that use the PCIe interface, and they are also attached directly to the motherboard without a separate power cable.

To summarize, you can use an HDD cable for an SSD if they have the same interface, such as SATA or IDE. However, you may need to use a different power cable for your SSD, depending on its form factor and power requirements. You cannot use an HDD cable for an SSD if they have a different interface, such as M.2 or PCIe. You should always consult the manual of your SSD and your cable before connecting them to avoid any damage or performance issues.

How to Recover Data From NVME SSD

If you have accidentally deleted or formatted data from your NVMe SSD, you may be wondering how to recover it. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to restore your lost files. Here is a brief guide on how to recover data from NVMe SSD.

  1. Stop using the NVMe SSD immediately. Any further write operations may overwrite the data you want to recover and make it unrecoverable.
  2. Connect the NVMe SSD to another computer or use a USB adapter. You will need a working computer and a compatible device to access the NVMe SSD.
  3. Download and install a reliable data recovery software. There are many options available online, but make sure you choose one that supports NVMe SSD and has good reviews.
  4. Launch the data recovery software and select the NVMe SSD as the source drive. The software will scan the drive and display the recoverable files.
  5. Preview and select the files you want to recover. You can filter the files by type, size, date, etc. to narrow down your search.
  6. Choose a different location to save the recovered files. Do not save them on the same NVMe SSD as this may cause data loss again.
  7. Wait for the recovery process to complete and check the recovered files.

By following these steps, you should be able to recover data from NVMe SSD successfully. However, if the data is corrupted or overwritten, you may not be able to recover it completely or at all. In that case, you may need to contact a professional data recovery service for help.

Duda sobre ampliación de RAM de equipo

¡Hola!

¡Muchas gracias!

What to Do After Installing the New SSD

After installing a new SSD, you may want to perform some tasks to optimize its performance and functionality. Here are some steps you can follow:

  • Check the alignment of the SSD partitions. This ensures that the SSD can read and write data efficiently and avoid unnecessary wear. You can use a tool like Disk Alignment Test to verify the alignment.
  • Enable TRIM support. TRIM is a feature that allows the operating system to inform the SSD which blocks of data are no longer in use and can be wiped. This helps to maintain the speed and lifespan of the SSD. You can enable TRIM by running the command `fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0` in an elevated command prompt.
  • Update the firmware of the SSD. Firmware is the software that controls the operation of the SSD. Updating it can improve the performance, stability and compatibility of the SSD. You can check the manufacturer's website for the latest firmware version and instructions on how to update it.
  • Configure the power settings. You may want to adjust the power settings of your system to prevent the SSD from entering a low-power state that can reduce its responsiveness. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Hard disk > Turn off hard disk after and set it to 0 minutes.
  • Disable unnecessary features. Some features that are useful for HDDs may not be needed or beneficial for SSDs, such as defragmentation, prefetch, superfetch and indexing. You can disable these features by following these steps:
  1. Defragmentation: Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Defragment and Optimize Drives > Select your SSD > Click Optimize > Uncheck Run on a schedule
  2. Prefetch and Superfetch: Go to Start > Run > Type `services.msc` > Find Prefetch and Superfetch services > Right-click and select Properties > Set Startup type to Disabled
  3. Indexing: Go to Start > File Explorer > Right-click your SSD > Select Properties > Uncheck Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties

Why are SSDs so expensive?

I am a customer who is interested in buying a SSD for my computer, but I am wondering why they are so expensive compared to HDDs. I have heard that SSDs are faster, more reliable, and more energy-efficient than HDDs, but I do not understand why these features make them cost so much more. I would like to know how SSDs work, what factors affect their price, and whether they are worth the investment.

Please explain this to me in detail and in simple terms that I can understand.

Proxmox Hypervisor and Windows 11 VM Setup: HDMI/DisplayPort Passthrough & Product Key Reuse

Hi,

I have a Geekom IT11 equipped with 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. I'm planning to install Proxmox as a Type 1 Hypervisor on it. Among the various Virtual Machines (VMs) I aim to run on this setup, I want one Windows 11 VM to function as a Home Media server.

I have two questions regarding this setup:
1. Is it possible to pass through either the HDMI or DisplayPort to the Windows VM? This would allow the VM to display natively and directly on a TV equipped with HDMI/DisplayPort. If so, could you explain how this is accomplished?
2. Can I reuse the Windows 11 Pro Product Key that came with the IT 11 for the Windows 11 Pro VM? I'm only planning to run a single instance of the VM.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best regards,
Nikica

PC is not possible to put to sleep?

When I click "Sleep" in Windows, the monitors turns off, but the fans in the computer (AS 6) is sitll running. It also randomly turns on monitors again after a while. I suspect it does not really goes to sleep, only turns off monitors.

I have checked in device manager that all devices are allowed to be turned off in power management.
I have also tried to disconnect all USBs.
Attached are results from powercfg commands.

5 Quick Beginner Upgrade Questions by a brandnew AS6 owner

The ASUS website doesn't specifically state these specs, so I figured I'd ask them all at once.

1) Is there a max size for an M.2 PCIe? Is 2TB supported? In both PCIe slots?
2) Is there a max size for a 2.5"SSD?
3) Is there a max amount of DDR5 ram?
4) If I remove the installed PCIe card and put in 2 new cards, how will I be able to (re)install Win11 Pro?
5) Am I registered as an AS6 owner automatically? Usually, buying new hardware asks me to register it.

Thank you. Can't wait to supercharge this thing.
